From the Pastor September 2008
The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: this month shall mark for you the beginning
of the months; it shall be the first month of the year for you.---Exodus 12: 2
The calendar year starts with New Year’s Day on January 1. The liturgical year starts with the first Sunday of Advent on November 30, 2008. But our church program year starts on Rally Day, the first Sunday after Labor Day each September. Rally Day is a day of remembering, reconnecting, re-gathering, homecoming, and thanksgiving. We reconnect with friends we’ve not seen over the summer. We recommit to another year of ministry and mission together. We feast at Christ’s table and enjoy a meal and celebration for the children, youth, and adults of our church family. If you have friends or neighbors who are looking for a church home, invite them to Rally Day or to the many events described in this newsletter!
Over the summer, I have been at work with our Membership Ministry, chaired by Gary Benz, on a new graphic identity for the church which includes revision of our church letterhead and logo and redesign of our church website. This identity was approved by our Board of Trustees in June. We anticipate that the website will go live in time for Rally Day…or just a few days later! Our new web address will be www.fccw.org". You will receive an email alert when our address changes.
The copy for our new website has been written by our communication consultant Diane Stephens of Stephens Communication in Evanston. The graphics have been designed by Bradley Evans of Anonymous Design in Glen Ellyn. You have seen Diane and Bradley’s work in the “What Matters” postcards and Pioneer Press ads which ran last fall and will run again this fall. Their work is clean, elegant and intuitive, and the goal of this project undertaken by the Membership Ministry is to more clearly communicate FCCW’s ministry and mission to our members, to those who may be interested in us, and to the surrounding community. Look for the new website soon, and enjoy!
Peace,
Stephanie
