Throughout the last ten years, many of you at FCCW have explored with Keith and Suzanne Ross the concept of mimetic theory. That exploration has culminated in Keith and Suzanne establishing a not for profit educational organization called The Raven Foundation. Through the lens of mimetic theory, the foundation seeks to promote healing, hope, reconciliation, and peace by offering insights into the dynamics of conflict and violence.
Along with Keith and Suzanne, Adam Ericksen, and Emily Martensen staff The Raven Foundation. Together, we just opened our new office in Glenview and established a website: www.ravenfoundation.org. We invite you to explore the website, where you will find more information about the foundation, explanations of mimetic theory, blogs exploring current events, and sign up to receive information about future Raven Foundation events.
Our first major event at the new office was held on Saturday, March 8th. It was a presentation by Dr. Babak Ebrahimian on Shakespeare’s Othello. The presentation was called A New Look at Envy in Othello. Dr. Ebrahimian used clips from Orson Wells’ classic film Othello to help us understand how Shakespeare challenges our understanding of ourselves and the workings of human relationships.
The Raven Foundation's second event was a two day conference called Religion and Violence: Untangling the Roots of Conflict that took place at The Raven Foundation on April 11 and 12. The conference included Jewish, Christian, and Muslim scholars. To learn more about this and other events, please visit the website or contact Adam Ericksen.
