Worship

At First Congregational Church of Wilmette, Worship Matters.

Our worship service is welcoming, inclusive, intellectually engaging, and spiritually renewing.  We sing hymns, hear scripture, and engage in a time of sharing and prayer.  Sermons focus on the meaning of the scripture text for our daily lives.  On any Sunday, you may hear an organ prelude, a choir anthem, a piano or flute duet, or our handbell choir.

Sunday Worship Service
Sanctuary, 10:00am

We celebrate Communion on the First Sunday of the Month, with the exceptions of Rally Day, September 7, 2008; and on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009. The Table is open to all. Everyone – child, youth, and adult – is welcome. No matter what your religious affiliation, and no matter what your particular beliefs or nagging doubts may be.

Please bring donations for the North Shore Food Pantry on Communion Sundays!  Needed supplies include pasta, beans, rice, coffee, tea, cereals, pop-top canned fruit, or meat.

Ministry of Music
First Congregational Church of Wilmette is blessed to have an active Music Program, offering many opportunities to all age groups.  Kurt Mockenhaupt serves as our Director of Music.

The Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:00pm and sings during worship every Sunday from September through May.   In addition, the choir sings for several special services during the year, including Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday.  This group is for Grade 10 to Adult.

The choir sings a variety of music, spanning a range of styles from classical to contemporary Christian.  New singers are always welcome; no experience is necessary!  Please consider joining our enthusiastic group of people!

Garner Memorial Handbell Choir
The Garner Memorial Handbell Choir, named after Lillian and Orrin Garner, in whose memory all of the bells were given, rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:00pm, and rings during worship once a month from September through May.  The choir also rings for the Christmas Eve service.
